I doubt there's any PD sites with this film, since it's under copyright:

Looks like "Belles of St. Trinian's" (1954),Blue Murder at St. Trinian's (1957), and even Wildcats of ST. Trinian's (1980) not under copyright according to US records. There is a copyright renewal (albeit late) for:
The great St. Trinian's train robbery. By Braywild, Ltd.

its amazing that once these copyrights expire and the films belong to the public, that the government is willing to hand the rights back, since the film never belonged to the government.

That's interesting. My understanding was that once a copyright expired the work was public domain and it could not be reclaimed. Is there an exception for this?

That's my understanding, too. There are many items whose copyrights were "renewed" after expiry, in some cases as much as a year later, including (among others) most of the season 1 Sgt Preston episodes.
Think I'll UL a nice noire film with invalid renewal, and see if it stays up
